Shametu River Lodge is located near Divundu - in one of Namibia’s most precious hidden gems, filled with the rich culture of the Kavango people: Women draped in colourful cloth, Nguni cattle crossing the road, children playing in the river, men on the wato’s catching dinner with nothing but an earthworm on a hand line, game parks filled with wildlife…

There is a choice in the type of accommodation: Luxury chalets or Luxury tents are nestled between lush trees and are built on the banks of the Okavango River, offering a spectacular view of the Popa Falls. Each unit has an en-suite bathroom, mosquito net, coffee station and lounge area.

There is a swimming pool overlooking the Okavango River, a lounge area and a coffee shop offering light meals from breakfast up to late lunch, delicious imported coffee, cakes and tarts.

At Shametu River Lodge you will be experiencing the tranquillity of the Kavango River, with Mahango Game Park and Buffalo Core Area (two parks forming part of the Bwabwata National Park) on your doorstep. You can expect to see at least two of the Big Five and many more Antelopes you are unlikely to see in the rest of Namibia. Some special birds you may encounter are the Wattled Crane, Pel’s Fishing Owl and African Skimmer.

Getting there

From Rundu: drive approximately 200km on the B8 until you reach Divundu. Turn right on the C48. Continue for approximately 7km until you see the sign to turn off to Shametu River Lodge. Turn left and continue for approximately 1km until you reach the entrance.

From Kongola: drive approximately 190km on the B8 until you reach Divundu. Turn left on the C48. Continue for approximately 7km until you see the sign to turn off to Shametu River Lodge. Turn left and continue for approximately 1km.
